Cockatrices - Open Species
Cockatrices are an open species that originated from the creation of my YouTube persona! To figure out how to make your own and what they're about, read below!

What are they about?
Creation
Everyone is allowed to make their own!
There are basic rules for what makes a Cockatrice a Cockatrice that I highly encourage you to adhere to. However, you won't be punished for going outside the box. Read the design, Lore, and Naming rules below to understand more!
Selling and Monetization
You are allowed to create designs and sell them for however much you want with whatever currency you want, real or digital. Just make sure you always credit me for the original species!
Lore
Lore will be developed later, but basic creature information is that Cockatrices are a species of sentient, large, avian critters that exist... somewhere! (Pending...) They are omnivores, love to fly, and have a wide variety of appearances.

They live in large familial groups, can wear clothing, use tools, have jobs, and more.
​
There is an existing hierarchy and royal family, but I have not developed that yet. The High Queen Cockatrice is Cudocoylac the Teal. All Cockatrice's listen under her rule.
Naming
Cockatrices are usually named for their physical attributes and in a two part naming system. The first part of their name can be anything, but the second part is always a descriptive of their appearance. These descriptors can be of:
-Color
-Personality
-Skill
-Area they were born in

Example names:
-Sawbeak the Moonlightborn
-Cardinal the Red
-River the Dastardly
-Quicktalon the Swift
-Seed the Quiet

Think of it as a first and last name but with "the" in between.
Design
These design "rules" will be reiterated below under the Customization portion of this page.

Because Cockatrice's are an open species, I truly don't care what you do with your OC! However, for the fun of it, try to keep these main features listed below on your character, as it identifies a Cockatrice AS a Cockatrice! Changing too much of these thing's kind of separates your character from being a part of the species if you change too much.
I'm not going to police these things, but these are like the "canon" as to what makes a Cockatrice the species it is. Like, all cars have a front window and four wheels for the most part. If you take of the wheels, it's not really a car anymore, is it? These are what make a cockatrice a cockatrice, and if you change these fundamentals, it kinda defeats the purpose of the species.

This is like the CONSTITUTION of this species except if you break these rules, you aren't like. banned from having your character or put on a public blacklist or whatever. I don't care technically, but I would prefer you stay within these rules to remain "accurate", but more than anything have fun so, with that, TRY AND KEEP THESE THINGS:

Cockatrices always four to eight eyes. (At least two on each side of the head, maximum four on each side of head).

Cockatrices have large combs on their heads.

Cockatrices have a set of display feathers atop their head behind their comb.

Cockatrices have dewlaps under their neck of varying sizes.

Cockatrices have long necks.

Cockatrices are feathered on their body at the very least.

Cockatrices have two wings, with one wing finger on each.

Cockatrices have two, long avian legs.

Cockatrices have large, serrated beaks akin to a woodpecker mixed with a raptorial bird.

Cockatrices have a long tail like a theropod dinosaur. These tails often have blades or spikes at the end for defense. Tails are always bare of feathers.

Born Female Cockatrices have two display feathers trailing down from the base of their tail. Born Males have spurs at the base of their feet. This is the only gender dimorphism present.

Adults are 7-10 ft. tall.

No specific color or pattern requirements.

These quantities and body part types are necessary for every cockatrice. These are the main categories, and below, you can customize them!
CUSTOMIZATION
This is where you make your big bird
When making your Cockatrice, you need to consider the different parts of its body!

Go through the list of body parts and see which ones you like, write them down, and when you're done, trace or use the guide photos in each body part page to create your Cockatrice OC!

There is a rarity system for parts, but it just shows how often these things show up in-universe. Anyone can have any thing.
